How To: iPhone/iPad Ad Hoc Distribution

I often need to send Ad Hoc distribution builds to customers, so that they can see the app progress. Unfortunately Apple made this process quite complicated. Here's a how to from the view of a customer:

1. Find your iPhone Device ID (UDID)
Every iPhone has a unique device id and to install an Ad Hoc build you need to first send this ID to the developer. You find your device id in iTunes (when your device is connected):

iTunes serial number

iTunes udid number

iTunes copy udid number

2. Install the Ad Hoc build
Once you got the Ad Hoc build from the developer you need to drag & drop the *.app and the *.mobileprovision file into the iTunes Mediathek. This should work on both Mac & Windows.

3. Sync your iPhone/iPad now
If you get any error message then please note the error code and send it back to the developer.

4. Done
You should now find the app on your device !
